Ways You Can Use Your Commute More Productively

The daily commute can feel like a waste, but there are things you can do to make better use of that time.

Getting to and from work can take up a significant portion of your day, but commuting doesn't necessarily have to feel like wasted time. There are things you can do to make better use of the time you spend travelling before and after office hours.

One of the best ways to spend your commute is by mentally preparing yourself for the day. You could start a to-do list and plan what you need to tackle when you step into the office, making sure you prioritise tasks so you can get stuck into the important ones the moment you reach your desk.

Another way to get organised is to check and answer any emails and voice messages. You won't necessarily want to respond then and there, but it's good to know if there's something urgent that needs your immediate attention.

If you don't want to be focused on work during your commute, then make time for brushing up on other skills or hobbies. Listening to informative podcasts is a great way to broaden your mind as you sit on the train, or you could use apps to help you learn another language. Whatever your other interests, commuting can give you the time to explore them.

Finally, relax. Relaxing is not time-wasting in the slightest. Unwinding on your way into work means you start the day refreshed, and unwinding on the way home means you can park the troubles of the day at the office. Reading, meditation, even sleeping – however you choose to relax, it will leave you in a better frame of mind.
