"Rich habits" is a term coined by Thomas Corley who spent five years researching successful people worldwide. He discovered that successful people shared almost the same daily habits. Here are some of the rich habits that the wealthy possess.
88% of the rich people devote at least 30 minutes of their time to read for self-education. They did not read for entertainment. Instead, they often choose self-improvement materials. Corley claimed that they would regularly select three types of books: biographies, self-help, and history books.
In addition to reading, Corley found that wealthy people will spend 30 minutes or more exercising. In fact, 76% of them will perform aerobic exercises such as walking or cycling for at least four days per week. In contrast, only 23% of poor people spend time exercising.
Successful people are also invested in waking up early. Based on Corley's findings, approximately 50% of self-made millionaires woke up at least three hours before starting their working hours. Additionally, Corley also stated that only 3% of poor people wake up early to start their day.
Besides that, the rich also have a habit of having multiple sources of income. They did not believe in a singular source of income. 65% of them have at least three sources of income that they created before becoming a millionaire. Examples of their income streams include part-ownership in a side business and real-estate rentals.
According to Corley, 67% of successful people limit their television intake to one hour or less in a day. Generally, they also avoid reality shows; hence only 6% of the wealthy watch them compared to 78% of the non-wealthy. They tend to prefer to spend their day productively.
Suffice to say that a successful person practices a lot of positive habits that create an impact on their daily and working routines. It is not easy to change old habits, but we can always improve for the better. By trying to incorporate these habits into our daily lives, we can also strive for success. As Aristotle once said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit".
